Mold Repairs and Insurance

You’ve had some mold damage to your house. You’ve had all of the mold removed but there is the aftermath to deal with. Find a company that has expertise and equipment to handle any and all repairs that need to be done. The damage might mean you need to have some parts of your house rebuilt or repaired. There’s no need to panic. Keep your calm and call a company that has expertise in mold repairs before calling your insurance company. Sometimes the damage is repairable without having to file a claim.

Filing a claim usually means an increase in your premiums. Water damage repairs and losses are usually covered by most insurance policies. That is if you had a property insurance policy that covered water damage. There are a few exceptions to that rule. Don’t let the flood that overtook your basement cause any sort of panic. Keep calm and focus on what you can do to fix the problem.  Have a mold repair expert assess your situation. They will also determine what kind of structure damage there is. Sometimes you will be fortunate and have no structure damage.

If you end up having to contact your insurance company, be sure to contact your agent, not the claims department. Talk to your insurance agent about what your policy will cover first. Then you can determine whether you will have to file a claim or not. There are many companies out there that will offer discounts for water extraction that are not billed through an insurance claim.

Be sure that you take care of your items carefully and pay attention to what you’re doing. Follow the few do’s and don’ts when it comes to handling a flood. After you have water extracted, you might have to have mold repair done. When that happens, it’s not the worst thing in the world. A professional team will be there to guide you through the process.

It doesn’t matter if your plumbing or nature caused the flood, if you pay attention and are careful, it’s fixable. When you live near the ocean, you have a higher chance of experiencing a flood in your lifetime. That is why you should always be sure that your insurance company covers floods. Sometimes you will have to buy flood insurance separately. It’s better to be safe than sorry!  With flood insurance, mold repairs will be covered depending on what happened and why you need the repairs.
