It is up to everyone on the planet to their best to ensure that the natural resources are used properly and responsibly. When the subject is building material the criteria includes:

  • Natural material without the use of chemicals or oil

  • One hundred percent biodegradable

  • Renewable and sustainable

When chemicals are used, such as pressure treating to ward off insect infestation, sooner or later there is a need to dispose of the waste. When materials such as Brazilian walnut lumber is used there are no chemicals used and as such there is no environmental impact.

By using building materials that are 100 percent biodegradable there is no need to dispose of them in ever decreasing land fill sites. The best materials to use are those that can be recycled, reused or disposed of in such a manner that they have zero environmental impact.

  • What are renewable building materials?

Renewable building material are that which is constantly being harvested and then replanted, in this way there is a constant and consistent supply of earth friendly material always available. Sensitive logging practices ensure that when trees are cut and harvested, more are planted to ensure a supply in the future. Brazilian walnut limber is renewable, oil is not.

  • Choices for decking materials:

There are cost effective materials available for decking purposes that demonstrate green building principles. Wood which is pressure treated with oil based chemicals have an increased resistance to insect infestation. However, Brazilian walnut lumber and the other Brazilian hardwoods that are commonly available meet the “green” criteria. Hardwood decking from Brazilian sources is by far the most cost effective wood when amortized over the life of the deck, not only that, it is without a doubt the most beautiful hardwood available.

Brazilian walnut lumber is naturally resistant to insects, will not rot, is biodegradable and can be recycled and reused for other projects.
